Michael Galban, a specialist in Haudenosaunee culture, a tattoo artist and the new Director of the Seneca Art & Culture Center at Ganondagan, will be in discussion with Jamie Jacobs, a Haudenosaunee ritualist and member of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation, and curator at the Rochester Museum & Science Center.

The discussion will broach traditional and contemporary tattooing, its importance at the time of the first colonizers, the reasons for its decline in the 20th century, and contemporary projects for its revitalization. With their combined expertise, the two speakers will paint a fuller picture of the history of tattooing, its wealth and variety, referring to examples from the museum collections.
